  • Killing Floor 3 Reveal

Looking for beta tester info on Killing Floor 3. Sure, there are more than likely posts on Steam Discussions, but a majority of it is just troll hype and criticism about KF2 getting upgraded to KF3. Anything officially know about KF3 that would suffice? Storyline, Map names, weapon selection, character selection? Is it worth the buy? I'm expecting to see the mentioned $60 price tag like it's a GTA5.5 with no vehicles. Any confirmation?

    Thanks

Quite a bit has been shared about Killing Floor 2 that you can count on:
    • Setting and Story:
      • The game is set in 2091, where players join the rebel group Nightfall to fight against Horzine's bioengineered monstrosities known as Zeds.
    • New Characters and Specialists:
      • A Commando with assault-style combat abilities.
      • Devlin: A Firebug specialist for crowd control using heat and fire.
      • Imran: An Engineer combining Support and Demolitionist roles, focusing on shotguns and high-power weapons. More specialists are expected to be introduced, each with unique abilities and gadgets.
    • Perks and Customization:
      • The game retains the perk system but expands it. Specialists will have 30 levels with over 30 skill choices, each upgradable multiple times. This provides extensive customization for player roles.
      • There's a mention of an "Operational Budget System" which allows players to start with custom-modified weapons as they level up.
      • Each specialist has a unique gadget, like Imran's Sonic Storm or Devlin's Wildfire, enhancing their battlefield role.
    • Weapons:
      • Players can mod weapons extensively, allowing for personalized gameplay experiences. This includes a new system for weapon modifications, enhancing the variability and strategy in combat.
      • Examples from gameplay footage include a revolving shotgun and electrified floors as environmental traps.
    • New Enemies:
      • New Zeds include "The Impaler" and "The Queen Crawler", suggesting more varied and challenging enemies with unique abilities.
    • Gameplay Mechanics:
      • Improved player movement with abilities like dashing and climbing.
      • Environmental traps add a new layer of strategy to the gameplay.
      • Crawlers can now move across walls and ceilings, increasing tactical complexity.
    • Maps:
      • While specific new map names haven't been detailed, the emphasis on dynamic environments and the ability for enemies to interact with the setting (like Crawlers climbing) suggest maps designed with verticality and complexity in mind.
    • Visual and Audio:
      • Specialists will have unique visual customization options and distinct voices, enhancing character depth.
    • Release and Updates:
      • Scheduled for a 2025 release, with plans for continuous free content updates post-launch, including new maps, weapons, and specialists.

And yes, players can host their own game servers in Killing Floor 3. The development team has confirmed that the game will support dedicated servers at launch across all platforms, allowing players to create their own servers for private or public play.

How certain are you about KF3 dedicated servers? based on the current trajectory of matchmaking for many other games it looks like custom servers are falling off a cliff. look at CS2 server browser. practically non existent.

whats the point of hosting your own servers if they just end up getting ddosed anyway. has not stopped and still an ongoing issue.

Based on the information available, KF3 will absolutely support multiplayer internet dedicated servers. Much like KF2, they will probably make available again the "takeover" feature which allows the server to be connected to by players using the matchmaking system, instead of waiting for players to join it from the server browser.

I feel your pain. We too have suffered this fate throughout the years. The best way to circumvent this would be to utilize a server host that has a generous amount of ddos protection on a larger backbone. It will cost you a bit more than your traditional VPS/VDS/Cloud server, but in terms of game servers, DDoS protection is something you usually seek above all. It's difficult to find a host that will cover locations outside of the US, as this tends to get expensive really quick. At that point, your best bet is to just make sure you are using the best iptables/firewall rules in Linux to make your ports and IP as secure as possible.
